BANDWAGON
Bandwagon, a propaganda tool pressuring one to do or act in a certain way using the idea that everybody else is doing it too, can clearly be seen in this war poster. The objective of this poster is to recruit soldiers for the British army for WW2. The poster states “WHO’S ABSENT”, implying that everyone else has already joined. Also, the quote “WHO’S ABSENT?” is similar to what teachers say after roll call, and it implies that joining the army is something that one must do, just like one must attend school. By asking “Is it you?”, with the “you” even underlined and bold, the British government is not only putting pressure on the viewer, but also shame. In general, the poster is saying “everybody is in the army and its your turn to join.” This poster is a good example of bandwagon because it uses the idea of majority and pressures the viewer to join.
